Catherine Porter is one of Auckland’s leading Orthodontists
Catherine studied for five years at Otago, New Zealand's only dental school, graduating with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 1986.
While she was there she had orthodontic treatment herself. Sitting on the other side of it, as the patient rather than the student, is what cemented her interest in orthodontics and set the direction for everything that followed. It is also why she has a fairly clear idea of what she is asking of you when she says eighteen months.
After graduating she practised dentistry in New Zealand and in London. She had two children, and kept working part time, first in New Plymouth and then in Auckland. When her youngest turned three she decided to specialise, and went back to Otago for three years of full time orthodontic training, coming away with a Master of Dental Surgery in Orthodontics in 2003.
She has practised as a specialist orthodontist since April 2004, and has run her own practice in Remuera ever since. She is a member of the New Zealand Association of Orthodontists, the New Zealand Dental Association and the Australian Dental Association, and currently serves as Vice President of the NZAO.
Those eighteen years in general dentistry before specialising turn out to matter. She knows what your dentist is dealing with, she plans treatment around the rest of your dental care rather than in isolation, and she talks to referring dentists as a colleague rather than through a portal.

The friendly faces you will get to know over your treatment.

Ginny Marr
Orthodontic Auxiliary
Ginny is a qualified dental assistant and qualified orthodontic auxiliary, and worked in the UK before joining Catherine. She assists with patient care and is usually the person talking you through what is happening while it happens.
-

Sandra Fraser
Practice Manager
Sandra runs the practice and handles fees, plans and scheduling. She has four children and has been through orthodontic treatment as a parent herself, which means when you are working out whether you can make this fit around a family, she has already done it.
-

Leanne De Gregorio
Receptionist
Leanne is the first person you meet and the voice on the phone. She can answer most orthodontic questions herself, so you are rarely waiting for someone to call you back.

"Catherine Porter is amazing. I had braces from her when I was younger, she fixed my teeth and I always get compliments on them! I’ve been going back for checkups and she’s always so lovely and understanding. I highly recommend her and her practice!"

"Catherine Porter did a great job for my 14 years old son....just a few weeks ago took the braces off and now we can see his very beautiful teeth and smile. Many thanks Catherine and her lovely team."

"Outstanding. Had a very nervous 11 year old with complex dental needs. Having had a difficult experience at another orthadontist, Catherine's approach was amazing. My daughter had her braces fixed with no dramas! Highly recommend."
EMMA
The Practice
First floor, 8 St Vincent Avenue, Remuera
A small practice, deliberately. One orthodontist, one auxiliary, one practice manager and one receptionist, treating families across Remuera, Parnell, Ōrākei, Meadowbank and the eastern suburbs.
Plenty of patients here are the second or third child in a family to be treated by Catherine, and a fair number are adults who had braces with her twenty years ago and have come back about their own children. That is the part of a small practice that a larger one cannot replicate.
